THE GORDON BENNETT

ITS HISTORY

The history of the Gordon Bennett Aeronautical Cup Is full of incredible flights, legendary stories and prestigious records.

The championship was created in 1906 by the adventurer James Gordon Bennett Jr, an American press baron and sponsor of motor racing and air sports.

The first championship started from the Tuileries in Paris. Sixteen balloons from seven nationalities took part.

COMPETITION RULES

  • 3 teams per country
  • Flying the longest distance in a straight line with no time limit
  • Teams coming down in the sea or landing in certain prohibited countries, closed to the championship, are disqualified.
  • The race will be held on nights with a full moon.
